Emirates First Class and private jet multi-stop journey – Dubai, Victoria Falls, Namibia, Cape Town, Kruger and Seychelles

The house lies in a private game reserve a few minutes' drive from Victoria Falls, on the Zimbabwean side. White rhino live on the grounds, and game drives start from the door.

The name recalls the explorers Henry Morton Stanley and David Livingstone, and the house keeps that colonial story deliberately alive, from the club armchair to the gin by the fire. Anantara has run it in the manner of a small country house since taking over.

Two nights are booked in a Garden View Suite of around 70 m². The suites are generous and colonial in style, with their own veranda onto the garden and a bathroom with a free-standing tub.

The pool and a terrace lie among old trees, and food is served there too. A fire is lit on the deck in the evening, where guests gather before dinner.

On the second day a helicopter takes you over both sides of the falls, Zimbabwe and Zambia, with views along the Zambezi and the gorge behind. On foot the falls can be walked along the rainforest path, where the spray falls like permanent rain.

The excursion day starts here: a flight by Cessna 208 over Sossusvlei, the red dunes, the white clay pan and the Skeleton Coast, landing at the Sossusvlei airstrip for lunch at the lodge before returning to Windhoek.

The hotel sits on the V&A Waterfront, a few steps away on foot, and holds one of the finest views in the city towards Table Mountain. The marina lies between the main building and the island buildings.

From the heliport on the Waterfront a flight takes in Table Mountain, Lion's Head, Camps Bay, the Atlantic coast, Hout Bay and the penguins at Boulders Beach.

In the late afternoon the cableway runs up Table Mountain, with views to Robben Island, the Cape of Good Hope and the city in the evening light.

The Waterfront with its shops, museums and restaurants begins at the door. For an extra day, the winelands around Stellenbosch or the drive to the Cape of Good Hope both work well.

An exclusive bush lodge in the Sabi Sand reserve with direct access to Kruger National Park, set above the Sabie River. From Kruger International airport a helicopter carries you on to the lodge.

Two nights are booked in a Luxury Suite of around 47 m², under thatch, with a four-poster bed, mosquito net and its own terrace facing the river. The infinity pool sits at the edge of the grounds above the water.

A first game drive follows on the afternoon of arrival, and early the next morning you head into Kruger for the Big Five: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. The Sabi Sand counts among the best leopard country in Africa.

A five-star house on private Round Island in the heart of the Sainte Anne Marine National Park, with only eight villas in all. It is a short boat ride from Mahé international airport.

Granite boulders, takamaka trees and narrow paths define the place; there are no roads and no traffic. The island can be walked around in half an hour.

Set in the middle of the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, about an hour from the airport. Around it there is nothing but dunes and the reserve.

The resort is modelled on Bedouin heritage: tented roofs over solid suites, handmade Arabian furnishings, carpets and brass. The main building overlooks a hollow where oryx and gazelle gather.
