Twelve days, one Cessna: from Etosha via the Skeleton Coast to the dunes of Sossusvlei.

You validate your European EASA license locally in Windhoek into a Namibian license, take the controls of a Cessna 182 yourself, and fly from lodge to lodge. An Etosha safari, Damaraland rock engravings, the Skeleton Coast and the dunes of Sossusvlei are included. Anyone without a pilot's license flies as a passenger alongside an experienced pilot.

Where you stay

Windhoek, Namibia

The Weinberg

Setting

The hotel lies in the south of Windhoek at the foot of the Auas mountains, quiet and yet a short drive from Eros airport, where the licence validation and the checkout flight take place. Hosea Kutako international airport is around 45 minutes away.

Architecture

Whitewashed gables, black window frames and wrought-iron balconies gather around planted courtyards with pergolas and water channels. The house belongs to the Gondwana Collection Namibia and is built around a listed core.

Rooms

The rooms are bright and contemporary, many with a terrace or balcony of their own onto the courtyard. A Superior double room is booked; larger categories are available on request.

Pool & dining

A rooftop pool looks out over Windhoek. The house has several restaurants and a bar, and in the evening you sit in the courtyard beneath the pergolas.

Windhoek

The Klein Windhoek district with its shops and restaurants starts at the door, and the centre is a few minutes away by car. The free day at the end of the trip suits a walk through town.

Your stay

You stay here twice: at the start of the trip during the licence formalities, and again on the second-to-last day before the evening flight home.

Ongava Game Reserve, Etosha National Park

Ongava Lodge

Setting

The lodge lies in the private Ongava Game Reserve just south of Etosha National Park, on a slope overlooking the bush. It has an airstrip of its own, which you fly into yourself on this trip.

Chalets

The rooms are free-standing stone chalets under thatch, with four-poster beds, mosquito nets and their own veranda. Inside, natural tones, timber and leather set the scene.

Lounge & deck

The lodge's lounge and bar open onto the valley, with a fireplace and generous seating. In the evening you sit on the timber deck above the waterhole, where game passes regularly.

Reserve & Etosha

On the afternoon of arrival you head out on a first game drive in the private reserve, home to both black and white rhino. The next morning the drive leads into Etosha National Park with its vast salt pan.

Waterholes

Etosha is dry country; the game gathers at the waterholes, which makes watching it predictable. In the dry season several species often stand there at once.

Meals

Full board is included at the lodges. You eat on the terrace overlooking the valley or by the fire in the boma.

Damaraland, Namibia

Twyfelfontein Country Lodge

Setting

The lodge tucks itself among the red sandstone of Damaraland, not far from the UNESCO World Heritage site of Twyfelfontein with its prehistoric rock engravings. An airstrip lies close by.

Rooms

The rooms sit in low stone buildings along the slope, each with its own terrace facing the desert. The construction takes up the colour of the rock, so that from a distance the lodge barely registers.

Pool

The pool lies among the rocks with an open view across the plain. At sunset the stone turns deep red, and the loungers at the edge are the best place for it.

Rock engravings

The engravings at Twyfelfontein are among the largest sites in Africa: over 2,000 depictions of animals and tracks cut into the sandstone. Guided walks start from the lodge.

Desert elephants

The region is home to desert-adapted elephants and black rhino that live along the dry riverbeds. They cover long distances in search of water.

Around the lodge

Not far away lie the Petrified Forest, the basalt Organ Pipes and the Brandberg with its White Lady painting. There is time enough for a half-day excursion.

The Fritz

Setting

This small house stands in Swakopmund, where the Namib runs straight into the Atlantic. The town is shaped by the German colonial period and today marks the stage between desert and coast. The approach takes you along the Skeleton Coast.

The house

A bed and breakfast of the Fritz Collection with a handful of individually furnished rooms and a personal tone, intended as a quiet stop halfway between Damaraland and Sossusvlei.

Sesriem, Namib-Naukluft Park

Sossusvlei Lodge

Setting

The lodge sits right at the Sesriem gate, the entrance to the Namib-Naukluft Park, with its own airstrip. That is the shortest way to the dunes of Sossusvlei and to Deadvlei: staying at the gate puts you among the dunes before anyone else.

Rooms & grounds

The rooms are adobe structures with tented roofs and their own terrace facing the desert. The lodge has a pool and a terrace overlooking a floodlit waterhole where game passes in the evening.

Sossusvlei

The red dunes of Sossusvlei are among the highest in the world, and in Deadvlei the dead camel thorn trees stand in the white clay pan. The light is best early, which is why the early start pays.

ENTRY & HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

As of: 21 June 2026 – German citizens require a visa (eVisa or visa on arrival, approx. €85), passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the end of the trip with at least 6 blank pages, proof of sufficient financial means and a return or onward flight ticket. Minors require an internationally certified birth certificate. No mandatory vaccinations when arriving directly from Germany; an international driving licence is additionally required for a rental car.

PAYMENT & PROTECTION

How much is the deposit?

As a rule, the deposit is 20% of the trip price. For peak-season dates it may be higher; this will be stated in the respective offer. For non-refundable special-fare flight tickets, the deposit may also be higher, as the ticket must be paid in full immediately.

When is the balance due?

As a rule, 30 days before departure. We'll point out any deviations already at the time of booking.

How do I pay for my trip?

Payment is conveniently made by bank transfer.

Is my trip protected by a tour operator insolvency insurance (ATOL licence)?

Yes. As a German tour operator we are legally obliged to protect your trip with a tour operator insolvency insurance (ATOL licence). Fly Unique has a contract with the R+V Versicherung. You will receive your insurance certificate automatically with your booking confirmation.

Do you recommend a travel cancellation insurance?

We generally recommend travel cancellation insurance and are happy to advise you on suitable options.

You'll receive your booking confirmation immediately after booking, and the complete travel documents no later than two weeks before departure.

I'd like to fly myself. What do I need?

Send us a copy of your pilot's license. We'll then support you with the license revalidation and inform you about all the documents required for it.

Which aircraft is right for my trip?

We're happy to advise you on the choice, whether for flying yourself, joining as a passenger, or a trip by private plane or private jet.

Do you assist with route planning and permits for pilot trips?

Yes, we're happy to handle route planning and support you with any permits that may be required.

Can allergies or dietary preferences be reported in advance?

I'm pregnant. Can I still travel?

In principle, traveling is possible with an uncomplicated pregnancy up to week 34/35; the second trimester (weeks 14 to 28) is considered ideal. The exact rules vary by airline: many require a medical certificate of fitness to fly from week 28 onward, and most airlines decline to carry passengers from week 36 onward. Feel free to reach out. We'll check individually for your airline and route how your desired trip can be arranged.
